Markers 101

When it comes to bringing my drawings to life with color, I very often choose markers. They make everything pop from the page and when used properly, can look very realistic.

Choose your marker.

And no, I am not talking about the Crayola markers you used when you were kids. Although they can come in handy sometimes, they aren't the best quality out there. The brand of markers that I use and will recommend to you are Copic markers. While alot of the markers out there are streaky and smear across the page, these ones don't. But just to be safe, when choosing a pen to outline with, I would look for ones that say "waterproof" or something along those lines. The Copic markers are around $8.00. Pricey, but worth it. If you want something cheaper, you can use Prismacolor. Another great brand. They are about $4.00.

Once you have the markers you choose, practice. If you draw a beautiful picture, you don't want to ruin it by using your markers the wrong way.

Another thing I need to tell you is about the type of paper you should use. Look for paper that is thinner. Like printer paper. If the paper is too thick, it will soak up quite a bit of marker ink. Thus making the marker run out of ink faster.

Good luck!
